Of Sunrises and Birds

One thing I found I enjoy doing is oil painting and then using sharpie to write a verse on it.
This sunrise painting I did awhile ago and posted on my blog then, but just recently added the verse.

On my other blog, Selena's Reflections, I did a post on birds. The pictures I took of them inspired me to paint a nest of eggs, to which I recently added a verse. I love how it is the finishing touch to a simple picture.

Colored Pencils

I can't stand dull tipped pencils. :)

I enjoy working with complementary colors, for example orange and blue, with the object one of the colors and the background the other color.

Ink Doodles

It has been a LONG time since I last posted. This is going to be the first of a couple posts to do an overview of the artwork that has happened since. :)

For a while I was into doodling with pen or thin marker around phrases, words, and letters. I love how it is fun, simple, and relaxing to do while ending up with a good result.

Sorry about the pictures that aren't the best.

Zentangle!

An art form, basically a doodle, that I learned recently is called Zentangle. It's a fun way to relieve stress. :) If you google Zentangle images you'll see a lot of cool artwork and find some additional information about it.

Here is an example of some things I've done. Sorry it's not a great photo.

Chess

I had the urge to draw chess pieces the other day and so I did. :)

They're fun to take pictures of also

And if you're wondering I rarely actually play the game because I'm terrible at it. :)

Food Art

We were at my cousin's house and we looked up some food art ideas and had a lot of fun looking at the ideas and trying to imitate them. :) I was proud at how well these turned out. :)

Watercolor Mountains

The result of just having some fun water color painting with my sister...nothing much, but we had fun. :) I love the way water colors look though I don't really know that much about them and how to use them.

Glass Blowing

Last Christmas I got a gift of going to a glass blowing place to take a little class. I got to make a flower with a little help from the teacher. There were about 7 others there also, and the teacher gave a demonstration on making a flower, then we got to make something: a flower, a bowl, an ornament, or a paperweight. It was a lot of fun and it turned out great!

I drew my shoe.

Yeah. I drew my shoe, just plopped it down in front of me and drew it. I haven't had a ton of time for art lately because I've been so busy, but I was at a friend's house and we decided to draw our shoes. :) Quite fun, actually. Truthfully I didn't quite finish: I didn't draw the stitching, I just drew lines for some of it; and I didn't put the brand name on it. But here it is.

PART TWO OF POST, HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH DRAWING SHOES  :) :P
I while ago my family got the idea from friends to make these things called dreamboards. All you need is a large piece of paper and some magazines. So our whole family sat down with this stuff and made them together, looking through the magazines for things we like or dream of doing. Then we cut them out and glued them on. It was so fun and it was really cool to see everyone's different dreams and things they're passionate about. Each family member explained some of the different things they chose to put on their dreamboard to everyone. I'm not going to do that here:), but I still thought I'd share a picture of my dreamboard with you...

Project Finished!

For Christmas 2011 my grandparents gave me a lap loom. And, *embarrassed smiles and coughs* I just finished making something on it about a month ago. :P But the result is pretty cool. I did everything: weaving it on the loom, making it into a bag with an inside liner, and making the handle. It's not big, but it's special because I made it!

The Weaver

My life is but a weaving
between my Lord and me;
I cannot choose the colors
He worketh steadily.

Oft times He weaveth sorrow
And I, in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper,
And I the underside.

Not til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

-Benjamin Malachi Franklin

I really like this poem, and it has even more meaning after experiencing weaving on even a lap loom myself.

Recent Art (....well....kind of)

Here is some of my "recent" artwork.

An oil painting:

I also thought it would be fun to experiment making this drawing with different mediums but I haven't had time yet. This is just a basic sketch.

Here are some Celtic braids that my friend taught me how to make...they are so awesome! (Sorry about the bad quality photo)

This is a pattern I printed off the internet and then colored with colored pencils. I liked it so much that I mounted it and put it in a frame! :)

This is something else that I made awhile ago and have had in my bedroom. It's made of thin black sharpie and colored pencils. (Sorry for the bad quality photo!)

Cards

Here are some recent cards I've made:

This is random, but...

From the same how to draw horse book that I drew this out of:

A design I printed off the internet one day and colored with colored pencils...it was fun! And there were so many different ways to look at it.

And I wanted to add this picture. I miss the abundance of flowers now that fall is here.

Who thought a weed could be so popular?

This is the final picture in my triplet of dandelion sketches :) I'm terrible at drawing hands, but I thought I'd try it...

And these are my other two.

The Cat and the Hat

These are more sketches and doodles from my sketchbook.
I love looking at other pictures and trying to copy them...For example picture books. Like, you guessed it, The Cat and the Hat.

No more hungry bellies :)
